HAMMER – Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing: Moving from Evolution to Revolution

Please join us for the first engagement meeting of Ohio State’s new National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center (ERC): HAMMER – Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing: Moving from Evolution to Revolution. This informal meeting is open to all.

Friday, October 7, 4-5 p.m. EST

Ohio State STEAM Factory, 400 West Rich Street
Columbus OH

This NSF ERC is based on an anticipated federal investment of $52M in the development of revolutionary new manufacturing capabilities over the next decade and serves much more than just research. It is designed to support workforce development, a culture of diversity and inclusion, and be based on an innovation ecosystem to build new companies and serve next-generation manufacturing. For more information, visit hammer.osu.edu. This is the first of what will be an ongoing series, planned to meet regularly via Zoom, with live meetings in Columbus the first Thursday of each month.  Other meetings will originate from our core partner institutions: Case Western Reserve University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Northwestern University and University of Tennessee Knoxville.

Please join us on Friday October 7h to meet the leaders, learn about the goals and planned programs, hear about recent related research advances, and help shape how HAMMER-ERC will engage with the community. Please share this invitation-- anyone with interest is welcome. The session will give an idea of how HAMMER-ERC will impact:

Manufacturing Robotics
Process innovation Artificial intelligence
STEM Education (from K to gray) Structural materials
Making skills (manual to automated) Standards and certification
Economic development Developing diverse leaders
Entrepreneurism  And more

I look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers,
Glenn Daehn
Center Director, HAMMER NSF ERC
Mars G. Fontana Professor of Metallurgical Engineering

P.S. There are great food and drink spots nearby in the Franklinton neighborhood to continue our discussions and network after the meeting. The meeting will also be broadcast via Zoom (see Zoom link at the bottom of this e-mail).  But if you can, please do join us live.
