Projects
Our state and national policy recommendations reflect a thoughtful and sustained response to industry-led and vetted problems and issues. Our goal is to make the technical resources of MEP centers, universities, public/private labs, industry/tech organizations, technical centers, and community colleges more accessible and relevant to Ohio’s small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMMEs). We also engage in outreach programs that support manufacturers - from small to medium-size firms to original equipment manufacturers - by aligning industries, academic institutions, technology support organizations and government to work on actionable solutions. In short, OMI provides manufacturers with the tools they need to collaborate with a statewide network of technical resources.
How can OMI help you?
- Develop industry-vetted, well-researched policy recommendations and best practices that support manufacturers, especially small- and medium-sized manufacturers
- Remove barriers and help to make university innovation resources more accessible to industry
- Support access to workforce development and technical resources, e.g., project-based student internships
Industry-vetted Policies

The Ohio Manufacturing Institute works with its industry, university, and government partners to find solutions to manufacturers' greatest technical challenges, including the following:
-
Advanced materials
-
Product development and commercialization practices
-
Smart factories for the next-generation industrial revolution
- Removing barriers between industry and academia
-
Roadmaps by technical process
-
Talent & workforce issues
Technical Resources

OMI provides manufacturers
with the tools they need to collaborate with a network of available technical resouces.
This benefits manufacturers looking for advanced technology solutions, current problems and assistance with new technologies. For
example, we connect industry needs with the best practices and resources available in Ohio by constructing a detailed decision analysis to evaluate existing entities on their potential ability to meet the technical needs of Ohio manufacturers.

Statewide Roadmaps
OMI conducted roadmapping work as part of a grant with the Ohio Development Services Agency to establish and implement a statewide Advanced Manufacturing Technical Network strategy. The first roadmapping report investigates four manufacturing processes (machining, molding, additive manufacturing, and joining/forming) and focuses on fuller utilization of Ohio¹s technical resources. Other objectives of the study considered ways to facilitate the development, transfer, and commercialization of advanced manufacturing technologies and provide technical network structure, leadership, and sustainability to support manufacturers.
